Ephesians 2:1-10

There are two things that jump out to me in this passage as I read it this morning. The first is the caution to recognize the way in which Satan influences the masses to follow in disobedience. If something is a popular position in culture today, it probably needs looked at through the lens of scripture. It very well could be that the popular position could lead you astray.

The second thing that jumps out to me is how salvation is a gift. Yes, we are to work out our salvation. (Philippians 2:12) Yes, faith without works is dead. (James 2:20) However, salvation itself is a gift from God. What happens after is important but you can do nothing to earn salvation. You can never be good enough to deserve salvation. Salvation is God’s gift to those who, with repentant hearts, seek forgiveness.

  • Is there any culturally popular opinion that is influencing you that needs analyzed through the lens of scripture? Would you conclude that opinion is biblical after searching scripture?
  • Have you been waiting to accept Christ until after you get your act together? Do you realize that you will never be good enough to deserve salvation? It is time to embrace His gift to you!
  • What would God have you do today to realize the good works He has in mind for you?

A Prayer: Father, you created me with something special in mind. Help me to daily discover what that something special may be. From an encouraging word to a cup of coffee; from a phone call to a meal, allow me to live faithfully in the little things in life. Father, I belong to you.
